Listen to the incredible stories that took place there and learn about the journey of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, our literature novel price, through the town he onced called home.

Continue into the Salt Cathedral, Colombia´s famous wonder and consider to be one of our greatest architecture achievements. First built by the miners who wanted divine protection while they worked over 8 hours underground. Over time, it became a religious and touristic center. Descend 180 meters (590 feets), explore the mine and discover all the symbolisms behind the stations of the cross. Enjoy the best view of the main altar and the biggest underground cross from the Choir. Keep going down until you reach the main naves, that represent the birth, life and death of Jesus.

This catholic temple is all enlightened by red, blue and purple lights, that summons to prayer and silence. That’s why we know it as the cathedral of light and salt. However, the story of the mines goes back to the times when our indigenous community, the Muiscas, controlled the land and the salt. Listen to fascinating stories about this community, their relationship with salt and how it all changed after the arrival of the Spanish.
