Why choose Day Tours in Bogota?

Bogota is the capital of Colombia, located over the eastern Andes mountain range. It is a vibrant city known for its rich history, culture, graffiti art, gastronomical scene and natural treasures.

Even though Bogota has all of these and much more to offer, it is a massive city and its high altitude, busy streets, and traffic can sometimes make it difficult to navigate.

Therefore, booking a Day tour in Bogota allows you to experience the city in a convenient, time-efficient way. Instead of worrying about transportation or planning, these tours give you the freedom to immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the city, guided by knowledgeable locals who know the ins and outs of Bogota.

Best things to do in Bogota

If you only have two or three days in the city, the best way to spend them is by covering all the must-see and must-do in the city.

Day 1: Visit the main Tourist Attractions in Bogota

We started this list with the most iconic places to visit in Bogota: La Candelaria, Monserrate, Gold Museum and Botero Museum. They are all located in the city center making it perfect to schedule all of them on the same day.

La Candelaria:

It is our historical district, so here you will find the main landmarks: Plaza de Bolívar, Palacio de Antonio Nariño (Presidential Palace), Main Cathedral, Government buildings, amongst others. Let yourself go and enjoy its colorful houses, amazing graffiti art and cobblestone streets.

Cerro de Monserrate:

Throughout our history, it has been known as the protector of the city and a religious hotspot for locals. With the arrival of tourism it gained popularity as the owner of the best panoramic view, making it a non-negotiable stop in Bogota.

It is open every day, but we recommend visiting during the weekdays to avoid long lines.

The Gold Museum of Bogota:

Considered one of the best Museums to visit in South America by TripAdvisor 2024; This museum exhibits the largest and most important collections of pre-Hispanic metallurgy in the world (made before the arrival of the Spanish in the late XV century). Read more about the Gold Museum.

It is open every day of the week, except Mondays and major holidays like:

Good Friday, May 1 (Labor Day), December 24 and 25 (Christmas), December 31 and January 1 (New Year’s).

Botero Museum:

Is a must if you love art. It holds the private collection of art from Fernando Botero. The most renowned Colombian artist, who also managed to be one of the most exhibited artists in the world and one of the most sought-after living Latin American artists until his death in 2023.

It is open every day of the week, except Tuesdays and major holidays like:

Good Friday, May 1 (Labor Day), December 24 and 25 (Christmas), December 31 and January 1 (New Year’s).

Day 2: Visit the main Tourist Attractions outside of Bogota

After you have experienced the best of Bogota, leave the city and get ready to visit the two main attractions in the surroundings: Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira and Guatavita Lake.

Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira:

Considered one of the largest underground temples in the world, built within the tunnels of a salt mine and carved in the same mineral; This architectural masterpiece is recognized as the first wonder of Colombia and a must during any traveler’s visit.

It is open every day, but we recommend not to visit during Catholic holidays (like Good Friday) to avoid long lines.

Guatavita Lake:

This is more than just a beautiful lake, it is known for being the place that gave rise to the famous Dorado legend, a mythical city made out of gold by our indigenous communities. Here you will enjoy a soft hike of 1.5 hours to reach three viewpoints to appreciate the emerald-colored of this mysterious lake.

It is closed the first day of the week. Which usually are Mondys but if Monday is a holiday, then it will be closed on Tuesday.

This area is full of bars, restaurants and party places. However, our favorite way to end a perfect day is at a rooftop with a cocktail and a stunning view.
